Based on the Mercedes Benz US, Inc.’s Production System, The Alabama Operations Management Institute (AOMI) is intended to raise the skills of Operational Management in the state of Alabama, by providing training involving the role of a company’s process leadership in successfully implementing a sustainable production system. The one fundamental difference of the AOMI program versus other training is the Management/Leadership Content. Production Systems, although a critical part of a sustainable operation, are fragile and not fully understood by Operational Management. In fact, “Brownfield” implementations of Production Systems have a low success rate (<5%). Being much better than the National Average is the target of the state and AOMI.
Characteristics of the successful AOMI Graduate should include:
- Ability to identify wastes
- Ability to Lead a Team
- Ability to Lead continuous improvement (C.I.) efforts
- Good Problem Solving Skills
- Understands and can teach “Lean “ Tools
- Can Coach management role at various levels
- Can establish commitment
- Can implement Leadership Behaviors
- Ability to implement methods
- Shop floor focused
- Passionate about "Lean” and C.I.
- Understands how to communicate to shop floor team members
- Good Coach and Teacher
