The basic element of Production System Management focuses on the realization that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Implementing system elements or tools outside of the context of a fully realized production system will not deliver results on the scale of a well managed, holistically applied, integrated system. The components of benchmark production systems are well defined; but the effective, sequenced implementation of “Standardization”, “First Time Quality”, “Pull”, and ultimately “Continuous Improvement” is frequently not achieved. The missing component is disciplined Management focus and commitment.
Implementation Format –AOMI’s curriculum reflects a roadmap for Production System Implementation. Over a 4 week period (1 week per month) Operation Managers are exposed to production system elements in the following sequence:
Week 1- Standardization
Week 2 – First Time Quality
Week 3 – JIT / Pull System
Week 4 – Continuous Improvement
AOMI employs a “Learning by Doing” method of skill building which provides its participants with a classroom introduction to Production System tools, Concepts and Leadership Principles, followed by “hands on” simulation and ultimately “on the floor” implementation at a selected “Target Company”. The 3 week break between training modules allows Target Companies to refine and expand the implementation initiated by AOMI participants.
